Inspection of Fire Water Mains

Leave the installation, inspection, and repair of your fire hydrant to us.

Inspection of fire water supply systems is an integral part of control measures to ensure a fully functional fire protection system. Fire water supply systems are installed in buildings to provide water for firefighting.
Water sources that provide water for firefighting must be capable of continuously supplying the water required for firefighting for at least 30 minutes and must have suitable conditions for pumping water.

Internal fire water supply system

Fire extinguishing equipment inside buildings, consisting mainly of a cabinet or cover, hose storage, manually operated inlet valve, flat hose with couplings and a lockable nozzle.

The hose reel, hose reel cabinet or wall hydrant cabinet must be marked with a graphic pictogram.

External fire water supply system

It consists of a network of pipes and outdoor hydrants (above-ground or underground) connected to the public water supply or private water sources. It is used by firefighters when responding to incidents outside the building.

The marking of the hose reel and wall hydrant shall include:

  1. the name or trade name of the manufacturer/supplier
  2. the technical standard number
  3. the year of manufacture
  4. the maximum working pressure in MPa
  5. the length and diameter of the hose
  6. the diameter of the nozzle opening

Inspection of fire water water mains / hydrant

Inspection of water supply equipment – fire hydrants after they have been handed over for use shall be carried out by a legal entity or natural person-entrepreneur at least once every 12 months, unless the manufacturer of individual parts of the equipment specifies a shorter interval.

A record of the inspection shall be made, stating the actual condition – functional/non-functional. The legal entity is required to retain these records for a minimum of 5 years.

Price for hydrant inspection: €6 per unit (excluding VAT).

Fire water supply system pressure test

Pressure test to verify that the fire hydrant (including valves and fittings) maintains the required pressure without water leakage and that it is functional in accordance with the standard.

The pressure test of the fire water supply system shall be performed at least once every 12 months.

Pressure test of fire hose

Fire hoses located in hose equipment shall be tested for functionality by means of a pressure test at least once every 5 years. This verifies that the fire hose (e.g., intervention hose, hydrant hose) can withstand the pressure for which it was manufactured without bursting or leaking.

A record of the current condition is made after the pressure test.

The pressure test may only be performed by a trained and authorized person.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A fire water system is a network of pipes and hydrants that supplies water for firefighting. It ensures quick and effective response in the event of a fire.

A visual inspection is used to check the labeling of the equipment, the availability, presence, and condition of the hose, nozzle, and valve, the fastening and storage of the hose, and the integrity of the cabinet. A pressure test of the fire water supply should be performed along with the inspection of the fire water supply.

Inspection is carried out at least once a year. In some cases, more frequently — depending on the type of building, its use, and internal regulations. This obligation arises from Act No. 314/2001 Coll. on Fire Protection and Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic No. 121/2002 Coll., which sets the requirements for fire safety of buildings and the procedures for their inspection.

Only certified individuals or companies authorized to inspect fire protection systems.

The system may fail during a fire, fines may be imposed by authorities, and insurance coverage may be reduced.
