VID FIREKILL Sets a New Standard: Effective Water Mist for High-Risk Areas

In June 2025, the first water mist system in the world received FM Approvals certification for use in buildings classified as hazard category 2 (HC-2) and hazard category 3 (HC-3). The low-pressure water mist system from VID FIREKILL successfully passed tests according to the new FM Approvals Standard 5560 for water mist systems.

What does this certification bring?

Until now, it was only possible to use water mist systems approved by FM Approvals for HC-1 (low-risk) premises. The new certification allows systems approved by FM Approvals to be installed in buildings with a higher fire hazard level (HC-2 and HC-3). This opens up the possibility of protecting various types of facilities — from production and commercial operations to data centers.

Difference between classification HC-2 (hazard category 2) and HC-3 (hazard category 3)

  • HC-2 (medium hazard): Areas with moderate quantities of combustible materials —
    for example, warehouses, mechanical workshops, or food processing facilities.

  • HC-3 (higher hazard): Areas with higher quantities of combustible materials, plastics, or flammable liquids. Typical examples include industrial halls or food manufacturing plants.

Traditional sprinklers require a large volume of water to protect these categories effectively. Thanks to its design, VID FIREKILL’s water mist fire protection system consumes up to 50 times less water, while maintaining high efficiency in extinguishing fires.
