Fire Extinguisher Inspection – A Legal Obligation and Safety Priority
Regular inspection of fire extinguishers is essential to ensure that extinguishers function properly in the event of a fire. This obligation is established by Decree No. 719/2002 Coll. of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic on the operational capability of fire extinguishers, as well as by Act No. 314/2001 Coll. on Fire Protection. Fire extinguisher inspection must be carried out by certified professionals. Beyond compliance, it is a key aspect of protecting lives, health, and property.
Types of fire extinguishers:
Powder fire extinguisher
The most versatile type of fire extinguisher, containing a fine extinguishing powder designed for extinguishing propane, butane, hydrogen, and also for extinguishing equipment under electric current.
Fire classes: A, B, C
Application: households, cars, workshops, garages, technical rooms
Volume: 1 kg, 2 kg, 4 kg, 6 kg, 9 kg
CO₂ (Carbon Dioxide / Snow) fire extinguisher
It uses compressed carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a fire extinguishing agent. When discharged, the CO₂ rapidly cools and turns into “snow” – a white, freezing mist that smothers the fire and reduces the combustion temperature. Suitable for flammable liquids and gases, such as propane, butane, hydrogen, and electronics.
Fire classes: B, C
Application: server rooms, offices, laboratories, electrical switchboards
Volume: 2 kg, 5 kg, 6 – 10 kg
Water fire extinguisher
It uses pressurized water, which effectively cools combustible material during application, thereby stopping the burning process. Suitable for extinguishing materials such as paper, wood, textiles, plastic, rubber, straw, coal, etc.
Fire classes: A
Application: offices, schools, wooden structures, libraries, archives, apartment buildings
Volume: 6 l, 9 l
Foam fire extinguisher
It uses a foam mixture (usually water + foaming agent) which, when sprayed, creates a cooling and insulating layer that covers the flammable surface and prevents oxygen from reaching the flame. Suitable for extinguishing liquids such as gasoline, oil, benzene, lacquer, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, etc.
Fire classes: A, B
Application: offices, kitchens, flammable material storage rooms, commercial premises
Volume: 6 l, 9 l
Inspection of fire extinguishers:
Fire extinguisher inspection is a regular professional inspection to verify that fire extinguishers are:
- in good technical condition (no damage, intact seal, inspection label, hose)
- correctly located and marked
- functional and ready for use in case of fire
Regular inspections should be carried out once every 12 months.

Fire extinguishers must be inspected by a qualified person with valid certification. After inspection, each device must be marked with an inspection sticker and accompanied by a certificate of inspection.
Repair and disposal of fire extinguishers:
If your fire extinguisher is not functional or fails a regular inspection or pressure test, we will ensure its professional repair or, if repair is not possible, its safe and environmentally friendly disposal in accordance with applicable regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We recommend checking fire extinguishers every 12 months.
For powder and CO₂ (snow) fire extinguishers, a pressure test is performed every 5 years. For water-based fire extinguishers, the pressure test must be performed at least every 3 years.
If the fire extinguisher fails the inspection, you can request a repair – the price and time will be specified by a technician based on the damage to the fire extinguisher and the identification of replacement parts that need to be replaced. Alternatively, you can purchase a new fire extinguisher from us.
