Floor marking is a simple but important tool for managing the movement of people and equipment in work environments. Properly designed marking has a direct impact on workplace safety, clarity, and operational flow. It is most commonly used in warehouses, production halls, logistics centers, parking facilities, and technical operations.

Why address floor marking at all?

Without clear marking, operations become unclear and hazardous:

pedestrian traffic mixes with material‑handling equipment,
safe and hazardous zones are not clearly separated,
visual orientation within the space is missing.

The result is an increased risk of workplace injuries, process disruptions, and problems during OHS inspections. Floor marking resolves these situations immediately and clearly through visual communication.

Floor Marking and OHS

From an occupational health and safety perspective, floor marking primarily serves to:

separate pedestrian routes from equipment traffic,
mark hazardous and high‑risk zones,
indicate escape routes and safe areas,
highlight obstacles, columns, and collision points.

During inspections, emphasis is placed especially on clarity, consistency, and up‑to‑date marking.
Damaged, inconsistent, or outdated markings are often considered just as serious a problem as their complete absence.

Basic Types of Floor Marking

In practice, floor marking consists of several elements that, when properly combined, create a clear and easy‑to‑read system at first glance:

Lines and Routes

– movement of people, forklifts, and material handling, supply and logistics routes

Zoning of Space

– storage areas, workstations, safety distances

Symbols and Pictograms

– warnings, prohibitions, and orientation signs, aplied directly on the floor

Colors of Floor Marking and Their Meaning

Colors must have a consistent meaning across the entire facility, otherwise they lose their function:

Yellow – routes, traffic lanes, work areas
White – organization and storage layout
Red – prohibition, danger, fire‑safety equipment
Green – safe zones and escape routes

A common mistake is using the same colors for different purposes or combining them without a clear system.

Implementation of Floor Marking

The method of implementing floor marking must take into account floor load, operational characteristics, and the need to maintain smooth pedestrian traffic. In industrial and logistics environments, it is not feasible to shut down operations and wait several days for conventional paint to cure.

For this reason, we use modern UV technology with immediate curing, which allows application without operational downtime and ensures instant usability of the space.

UV floor marking is characterized by high chemical and mechanical resistance, long service life, and a clean application process without odors or solvents. It is suitable even for demanding conditions at temperatures from –25 °C to +35 °C. Each marking is designed according to actual movement of people and equipment and in line with OHS requirements to ensure clarity, consistency, and functionality even under intensive use.

Celebrating 15 Years of 3MON in the Spirit of Technology

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of 3MON, we met with colleagues from our partner company JKBOZ to mark this milestone in a way that is close to us – through technology, live demonstrations, and personal interaction.

The event was opened by founder and CEO Simona Kalinovská, who delivered a short address and shared the history of the company, its development, and key milestones over the past fifteen years. She outlined why 3MON has been built from the very beginning on technology, a system-based approach, and continuous education.

A day Full of Technology

The program of the day was prepared not only for our colleagues but also for our partners from JKBOZ, for whom we wanted to practically demonstrate the solutions we work with. The program included a presentation of the MAUS system, along with a live demonstration of its functionality during a simulated fire in an electrical distribution cabinet. We also introduced the FIRE ISOLATOR fire blanket, NEURUPPIN fire extinguishers designed for lithium batteries, and discussed their possible applications.

Participants also had the opportunity to try out VR glasses, through which they could test their abilities in firefighting and first aid scenarios within a virtual environment. The program was further enriched by the interactive game Rescue Mission, combined with a competition for a wellness entry.

As an additional technological highlight, we showcased the Colossus firefighting robot, which arrived from France and offered a broader perspective on modern tools used in the field of fire protection.

Space for Conversation and Good Food

An informal part was also an integral part of the day, during which we made time for conversation and the sharing of experiences. It was precisely these moments that created space for personal meetings, feedback, and discussions beyond the usual work context. The celebratory cake cutting symbolically marked the end of the official program. Lunch was prepared by Andrej Duban, whose steak and burger specialties helped create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

The anniversary day was above all a meeting of people who stand behind 3MON projects and collaborate in bringing them to life. It offered a moment to slow down, reflect on our shared journey, and reaffirm that personal connections still have a strong place in a highly technical world. In the real conditions of the Výcvikové centrum Lešť, authentic fire tests will once again take place on April 29, 2026, putting to the test the technologies we encounter today in cities, companies, and households.

Three real fire scenarios that show more than theory can

Fire protection for wallboxes

The test will demonstrate how quickly the ASD Fire System and MAUS Stixx Pro candetect and stop a fire in an AC charging station.

Fire protection for photovoltaic systems

A simulation of a panel fire will verify the effectiveness of LISTEC and MINIMAX technologies in detecting and extinguishing solar system fires.

Fire protection for battery storage systems

The test will identify the most suitable detection and extinguishing solutions for the safe operation of battery storage systems.

Why is FireTest so important?

After FireTest 2024, where an electric vehicle was intentionally ignited inside an enclosed space, new guidelines were created that enable the safe parking and charging of electric vehicles even in underground garages. The event showed that practical data from real tests can shape technical and legislative solutions — and change practice on a large scale.

FireTest 2026 has clear objectives:

verify new possibilities for the placement of early fire‑detection systems,
prepare technical background materials for the safe operation of photovoltaics,
identify key measures for battery storage safety.

Night work represents an increased strain on the human body and is associated with higher health risks. That is why legislation precisely defines and regulates the obligations that employers must follow to protect their employees. Correctly identifying who qualifies as a night worker is essential not only for safety but also for meeting all legal and preventive requirements.

This article provides a clear, practical overview.

Why Is It Important to Correctly Identify Night Workers?

Increased Health Risks

Night shifts disrupt the circadian rhythm, increase fatigue, impact sleep quality, and may contribute to long‑term health complications.

Legislative Obligations

By classifying employees as night workers, employers automatically assume specific responsibilities, including mandatory medical checks for night work.

Employer Responsibility

Correct classification is key to ensuring that employees receive appropriate assessments and that employers meet all legal requirements related to night work.

When Is an Employee Considered a Night Worker?

Regularly performs at least 3 consecutive hours of work between 22:00 and 06:00.

Night workers are subject to different rules than employees who only occasionally work at night.

What Is NOT Considered Night Work?

Performing a small portion of work during night hours does not qualify the employee as a night worker.

Mandatory Medical Examinations for Night Work

Initial Medical Examination

Before assigning an employee to night work, every worker must undergo an initial medical check focused on fitness for night work. Its goal is to confirm the employee's ability to safely perform night work.

Regular Periodic Examinations

Employees working night shifts must regularly undergo periodic medical examinations, usually once a year, to detect early health changes or risk factors caused by night work.

Assessment of Health Limitations

If a doctor identifies a health condition that may limit or prevent night work, they can recommend adjusting working hours or transferring the employee to day shifts. The employer is required to follow the doctor’s assessment.

How Can an Employer Prevent Health Risks from Night Work?

Regular assessment of the work regime – technical, technological, and organizational measures should be reviewed and improved to reduce risks associated with night work.

Cooperation with occupational health services – professional monitoring helps detect reduced fitness for night work early—ideally during annual examinations—so preventive actions can be taken.

Education and prevention

Night work represents an increased physical and mental burden, which is why correct identification of all night workers and timely medical examinations are essential. Proper classification ensures protection of employees’ health and helps employers meet all legislative duties without stress.

RECAP 2025 (2/2): Places Where Opportunities Are Born

We open the new year with another chapter of our recap series, looking back at all the places we visited in 2025. It wasn’t a year spent between four walls. It was a year on the road, among people, in discussions, on stages and in spaces where ideas, experience, and new beginnings come together.

We started at the IBP Health & Safety Conference, where we stepped into topics of safety and practical insights from experts across different fields. From there, we moved into the world of mobility and technology at eFleet Day, where we observed how transportation and infrastructure around us are changing. The year reached full momentum at FIRECO 2025, where we met partners, led conversations, listened to real-world experience, and saw how strongly the community can push fire‑safety solutions forward.

Then came the smaller, but equally valuable meet‑ups, such as the SAFM Breakfast, where the best ideas are often born even before the first cup of coffee is finished. In summer, something more than conference chairs awaited us — the Fire & Rescue Day celebrations (MDD), which we spent among firefighters, families, and children. It reminded us that prevention doesn’t live only in expert halls, but right in the communities that need it most.

Another stop was SUZ in Vynany, a place where field experts and technicians met, new connections were made, and it became clear once again that cooperation is the foundation. At Slovakia Tech, we were among innovators and leaders shaping the future across industries — from technology and systems to sustainability.

One of the most memorable experiences was the Ministry of Interior Rescue Days – Slovak Championship in Extrication of Injured Persons from Crashed Vehicles. Seeing everything with our own eyes — how an idea becomes preparation, coordination, and technology — showed us how safety happens here and now. It’s no longer just a scenario; it’s experience.

The year continued with the Facility Management Days conference. The world of buildings, infrastructure, people, and processes that ensure spaces function safely and efficiently. And because good topics deserve to be revisited, in autumn we returned to IBPCON 2025, where we continued conversations, strengthened relationships, and confirmed the direction we’re building together.

One of the standout moments of the year was the Forbes Women’s Summit, where our CEO Simona Kalinovská joined a panel discussion with women whose work moves industries, communities, and society forward. It was inspiring to see that safety has its place among strong voices and impactful perspectives.

We closed the year at the EPIC Conference, where we drew new energy, inspiration, and motivation from the stories of people who are not afraid to push the boundaries of their fields — and themselves.

Each event was different. Somewhere we presented, elsewhere we listened, sometimes we encouraged others, and at times we drew inspiration for ourselves. But they all had one thing in common: they brought us new contacts, collaboration, ideas, and energy — all of which showed up in our projects, products, and within our own team.

This year of events showed us that the most important things aren’t born only in the office. They emerge in conversations during breaks, in chance meetings at the entrance, in the exchange of business cards, in a single sentence someone says on stage that sparks the next step. And that’s exactly why the events of 2025 were not just calendar entries — they were spaces where the story of 3MON moved forward.

RECAP 2025 (1/2): The Team That Holds Everything Together

The new year is here, and naturally we look back to remind ourselves of what the previous year brought us. And the first thing that comes to mind isn’t charts or reports. It’s our Rescue Team – the people who make 3MON what it is every single day, the way we know it.
2025 was full of moments that wouldn’t have been the same if we hadn’t experienced them together. We started by discovering who we really are through the Gallup talent diagnostics, which helped us understand what we are naturally strong at, what comes easily to us, what holds us back, and how we can all work with that to grow together.

A few weeks later, a challenge awaited us—one that tested more than just physical strength. The Spartan Race in Valčianska dolina reminded us that when one person starts to fade, another can pull them forward, and together we can overcome even what seems impossible at first glance.

Summer brought a different kind of adrenaline. The Skid School at Slovakia Ring showed us how important it is to react at the right moment. Just like in security work, on the track one second can change everything.

Next came the Power of Speaking course, where we learned how to step in front of people, express our thoughts out loud, put aside stage fright, and accept our own voice as a tool each of us carries.

Alongside these big activities, we continued with another stage of the Gallup development—this time focused on how to work together. For a moment, we looked at the team like an organism that grows precisely thanks to differences.

We must not forget IT security either, which reminded us that protection isn’t just about buildings, devices, or people in the field—it also applies to the digital world, where we work just as intensively today.

Among the big experiences, we also lived through the completely ordinary days. Coffee in the kitchen, quick chats between offices, celebrations of name days and birthdays, quiet moments when someone needed support, and loud cheering when things finally worked out. All of this created an atmosphere that can’t be bought or planned. It’s a culture that grows on its own when people decide to stick together.

And at the end of the year came our Christmas party, where we finally met without work duties, in good spirits, and with plenty of stories from the entire year. Together we recalled how much we managed to do, how many new experiences we gained, and how many situations we handled because we could lean on one another.

It was a moment when we slowed down and enjoyed being together for a while.

That’s how we lived through 2025. And with pride, we close it with words that describe this year best: we stand together, and together we move forward.

Part 3: EV fires – why they require a system-based approach

In the previous parts, we showed that EV fires behave differently from fires involving internal combustion vehicles and that the suppression of visible flames often does not mean the end of the risk. Persisting temperatures, the risk of re-ignition, and the release of toxic gases make EV fires a complex, multi-phase event.

For this reason, it is increasingly clear that when dealing with electric vehicles, it is not sufficient to rely on a single tool or a single response step. The effective management of an EV fire requires a coordinated system of measures that complement one another.

A fire blanket addresses only part of the EV fire challenge

Every tool used in EV fire incidents addresses only part of the overall challenge. For example, fire blankets can be highly effective in isolating the vehicle and preventing the spread of fire to the surroundings, but they do not stop the reaction occurring inside the battery itself.

Similarly, it applies that:

suppressing flames does not automatically resolve battery overheating
external cooling may not reach the source of the problem
waiting without active monitoring introduces uncertainty

An EV fire therefore cannot be resolved through a single intervention. It requires a step-by-step approach that responds to the individual phases of the incident.

Key elements of a modern EV fire response system

Vehicle isolation

Rapid separation of the burning vehicle from its surroundings in order to prevent fire spread and reduce thermal exposure to the environment.

Cooling and environmental control

Reduction of temperatures, limitation of smoke and toxic gases, and improvement of conditions for a safe response, particularly in enclosed spaces.

Flame suppression

Use of appropriate extinguishing agents to limit open flames and reduce temperatures during the initial phase of the incident response.

Monitoring

Continuous monitoring of temperature and vehicle condition, enabling better decision-making regarding further actions and reducing the risk of unexpected developments.

Direct intervention in the battery

One of the most challenging aspects of EV fires is the fact that the source of the problem is located inside a closed battery module. For this reason, solutions are used in practice that allow responders to penetrate the battery and address it from within.

These include various types of devices capable of:

mechanically penetrating the protective battery casing
delivering extinguishing or cooling agents directly to the heat source
supporting faster temperature reduction and battery stabilization

Such tools exist in different technical designs and are primarily used in situations where there is a high risk of re-ignition or where it is necessary to actively address internal processes within the battery.

The importance of training and procedures

Even the best technology on its own is not sufficient if it is not part of a clearly defined procedure. EV fires place high demands on decision-making, coordination, and the safety of responding personnel.

For this reason, a system-based approach must also include:

staff training and education
clearly defined scenarios for different types of environments
predefined procedures following flame suppression

It is precisely the combination of technical measures and human preparedness that significantly reduces the risk of errors and unnecessary damage.

Why EV fires require a system-based approach

EV fires are not just a matter of extinguishing flames. They represent a safety, technical, and operational challenge that affects the functioning of buildings, infrastructure, and emergency services.

A system-based approach enables:

faster stabilization of the situation (for example, through the use of a fire blanket)
greater safety for responders and surrounding areas
better control of the risk of re-ignition
reduction of secondary damage and operational impacts

This is why EV fires are increasingly addressed not as isolated incidents, but as scenarios that require advance preparation.

Part 2: EV fires – challenges that do not end with flame suppression

In the first part of this series, we explained why EV fires differ from fires involving internal combustion vehicles and why this topic has been receiving increasing attention. We also showed that fire blankets play an important role in the initial phase of response, particularly in the rapid stabilization of the situation.

With electric vehicles, however, the suppression of visible flames often does not mean that the incident has been fully resolved. On the contrary, once the first phase of the response is completed, additional challenges emerge that are not immediately visible but have a significant impact on the safety of subsequent actions.

Flames do not mean the fire is over

In conventional vehicle fires, the disappearance of flames is in most cases considered a clear indication that the incident is under control. With EV fires, this assumption often does not apply.

If a lithium-ion traction battery is damaged and thermal runaway is initiated, the process may continue even after flames have been suppressed externally. Chemical reactions and heat generation can persist inside the battery module, without immediate external signs.

From a response perspective, this means that an electric vehicle fire cannot be assessed solely based on the visibility of flames.

Persistent temperatures and the risk of re-ignition

One of the main challenges after flame suppression is persistently high temperatures within the battery. Battery modules are enclosed and structurally protected, which significantly limits natural heat dissipation.

Even after the situation appears stabilized:

the battery may remain extremely hot
heat can continue to propagate between cells
the risk of re-ignition may persist

Re-ignition can occur with a time delay, for example during vehicle relocation, changes in position, or handling after the initial response.

Toxic gases and secondary impacts of EV fires

Another risk that often becomes apparent only after flames are suppressed is the release of toxic and irritating gases. These gases may be emitted even in the absence of open flames and pose a particular risk in enclosed spaces.

In parking garages, industrial halls, or other enclosed facilities, an EV fire can therefore lead to:

restricted or closed access to the area
evacuation of occupants
the need for extended ventilation and environmental monitoring

In addition, operational and logistical consequences arise, as the vehicle may need to be monitored for an extended period and secured against further risk.

EV fires therefore cannot be treated as a single, short-term event that ends once flames are no longer visible. After the initial phase of the response, open questions remain regarding battery temperature, the risk of re-ignition, and the safety of further handling of the vehicle.

These factors highlight the need to approach EV fires in a systematic way, which will be the focus of the third part of this series.
